Chris and Yin Soentpiet - February 6, 2009

Sandwich Reads Together invited children’s book illustrator Chris Soentpiet and author Yin Soentpiet to Sandwich to talk about their award winning books to over six hundred 3rd and 4th graders at the H.T. Wing, Oak Ridge, and Forestdale Elementary Schools. Afterwards, the Soentpiets visited the Sandwich Public Library to meet even more young readers. Says reference librarian and SRT co-chair Lauren Robinson, “One parent reported that her son who’d seen the Soentpiets at his school had got off the bus and said you’ve got to take me to the library so I can see them again! The power of reading and meeting authors is just amazing!’

The husband and wife team Chris and Yin Soentpiet enjoyed taking and answering questions from the very attentive audience at the Sandwich Public Library.

Illustrator Chris Soentpiet signs a copy of his book for a young reader. He told the gathered that it can take six months of eight hour workdays to paint all the illustrations that go into a single book.
